Dear Parents and Whānau,
For Māori Language Week, Room 13 created our special Korowai, Te Korowai Raranga. We worked together to make it colorful and meaningful, using our unique talents and ideas.
This project celebrated te reo Māori and highlighted our unity as a class. Te Korowai Raranga is a reminder of how we can come together and honor Māori culture.
Te Korowai Raranga, meaning “The Woven Cloak,” beautifully represents Room 13. The term “raranga” highlights the traditional Māori art of weaving, where individual here (threads) are carefully combined to create something both strong and beautiful.
In Room 13, Te Korowai Raranga symbolizes how each student’s unique strengths and personalities come together, much like the here of a Korowai. Just as weaving intertwines individual threads to form a cohesive and elegant cloak, students in Room 13 work collaboratively, embracing kotahitanga (unity) and mahitahi tanga (collaboration). This name reflects how every student’s unique kaha (strengths) contributes to a supportive and dynamic classroom environment.
The name Te Korowai Raranga celebrates the class’s collective mana (strength), emphasizing that the combination of each student’s individual attributes weaves together a vibrant and inclusive learning community.
